Airlink to Tee Off Air Show Golf Tournament

Dubai 21st September, 2003

The Dubai 2003 Airlink Golf Tournament will be held in conjunction with Dubai 2003 , the international aerospace exhibition being staged in December.

One hundred competitors are expected to tee off under floodlights at 6pm on December 9 at the Nad Al Sheba Club course in the invitation-only Dubai Air Show Golf Day sponsored by Dubai-based Airlink.

This is a continuation of support by Airlink International (delete UAE), which is also the official freight forwarder to the air show. Over the past two decades Airlink has built up a remarkable reputation as a dominant player in the regional freight forwarding industry.

“The air show has proven to be a good platform for such an event. The Dubai 2001 tournament was limited to 50 players and had a waiting list, so we have therefore decided to increase the numbers to 100 and already have received a great deal of interest,” says Elias Monem, Airlink's Vice-President Cargo in the UAE.

This is the second time the event has been staged. The nine-hole tournament will be played under a pairs better-ball stableford format. Prizes will be on offer for top pairings plus longest drive and nearest-the-pin.

The highest handicappers will play the front nine holes while the lowest handicappers will compete on the back nine. Prizes will be awarded at a presentation supper after the completion of play.

“The golf tournament will be a great chance for exhibitors and visitors to the show to relax after work with a round of golf at a world-class facility,” said Alison Weller, Project Manager, Dubai 2003.

Dubai 2003 will be held at Airport Expo Dubai from December 7-11 this year. Dubai 2003 is being organised by Fairs and Exhibitions in conjunction with the Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai and in collaboration with the UAE Armed Forces.
